The Gauhati High Court, without any parallel, is a single institution exercising jurisdiction over seven North eastern States in India, and the Aizawl Bench being one of it. The Government of India and the erstwhile Mizoram National Front (MNF) had signed a Peace Accord in the year 1986 wherein, amongst other points of agreement, a separate High Court for the State of Mizoram was envisaged. Accordingly, the President of India vide his Order dated 21.6.1990, notified the establishment of a Permanent Bench of the Gauhati High Court.
