The prisoners are kept in safe, humane, cost-efficient, and adequately secure and supervised environment of prisons and provide work and other self-improvement opportunities to assist offenders in becoming law-abiding citizens. The Department has been established to provide progressive and humane care for prison inmates, to professionalize the service, and to ensure consistent and centralized administration of the state prisons in operation.
