The district comprises of nine blocks ,namely, Sahibganj, Mandro, Borio, Barhait, Taljhari, Rajmahal, Udhwa, Pathna and Barharwa.As per Census 2011,the district has 1349 villages and 8 towns distributed in three assembly constituencies.
