SSB is a Border Guarding Force (BGF) under the administrative control of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

SSB was set up in early 1963 in the wake of the Indo-China conflict to inculcate feelings of national belonging in the border population and develop their capabilities for resistance through a continuous process of motivation, training, development, welfare programmes and activities in the then NEFA, North Assam, North Bengal, hills of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Ladakh. The scheme was later extended to Manipur, Tripura, Jammu (1965), Meghalaya (1975), Sikkim (1976), border areas of Rajasthan and Guj arat (1989), Manipur, Mizoram and some more areas of Rajasthan and Gujarat (1988), South Bengal, Nagaland (1989) and Nubra Valley, Rajouri and Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir (1991).

Specialist Medical Officer (Deputy Commandant) : 220 Posts
Qualification : - For Medical Officer (Assistant Commandant) : A recognized medical qualification of allophonic system of medicines included in the first or second schedule or Part–II of third schedule (other than licentiate qualification) to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 and must have permanent registration from any State Medical Council/MCI before appointment in any of the CAPFs.

For Specialist Medical Officer (Deputy Commandant) : A recognized medical qualification of allopathic system of medicines included in the first or second schedule or Part–II of third schedule (other than licentiate qualification) to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 and must have permanent registration from any State Medical Council/MCI before appointment in any of the CAPFs and A Post Graduate Degree/Diploma in the concerned specialty.

Age Limit : - For Medical Officer (Assistant Commandant) : Maximum 30 Years.
For Specialist Medical Officer (Deputy Commandant) : Maximm 40 Years. As on 26.11.2015.
Age relaxation is as per SSB norms.

Application Fee : - General/OBC category candidates have to pay Rs. 100/- through IPO/Bank Draft/Banker Cheque in favour of Commandant, 25th Bn, SSB, Ghitorni, payable at State Bank of India, Sultanpur, New Delhi, Code No. 06837. Examination fee is exempted for SC/ST & female candidates.
Selection Process : - Selection process will be based Written Examination, Interview and Medical Examine.
