The PGIMER owes its inception to the vision of late Sardar Partap Singh Kairon, the then Chief Minister of Punjab and the distinguished medical educationists of the then combined

state of Punjab, supported by the first Prime Minister of India Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru who considered the institutions of scientific knowledge as temples of learning and the places of pilgrimage. The institute started in 1962 and Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru inaugurated the hospital now named “Nehru Hospital” on 7th July 1963. The Institute was originally under the Government of undivided Punjab.

Qualification : - For Lower Division Clerk : Passed 12th Class or its equivalent qualification from a recognized Board/ University. A typing speed of 35 w.p.m. in English or 30 w.p.m. in Hindi on computer.

For Staff Nurse : Passed 10th/ Matriculation or its equivalent from a recognized University/ Board with Certificate in General Nursing and Midwifery from a recognized Institution or its equivalent qualification for Male Nurse.

Age Limit : - Minimum 18 Years to Maximum 30 Years or 35/ 45 / 50 Years as per posts require. As on 12.05.2016.
Age relaxation is as per Govt. norms.
