Initially known as Subordinate Services Commission, it was set up on 1 July 1976, primarily to make recruitment on zonal basis for non-technical Group C posts under the Central Government, except the post for which recruitment was made by Railway Service Commission and the industrial establishments.

Qualification : - For Junior Engineer : Bachelor’s Degree in science with one of the subjects at Graduate Level viz., physics, Computer Science, Electronics from a recognised University.

For Assistant (Legal) : Bachelors Degree in Law of a recognised University established or incorporated by or under a Central Act or Provincial Act, or a State Act, or any institution.
