The composite North East Postal Circle was bifurcated into Assam Circle and North East Circle on 28.6.1988. The headquarters of the North East Circle is located at Shillong, the capital of the state of Meghalaya. The North East Circle is under the administrative control of the Chief Postmaster General. The North East Circle covers six States, viz. Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura. There are seven Postal Divisions and one Postal Civil Wing Division in the Circle. There are also two other functional units, namely, one Postal Stores Depot situated at Silchar and Returned Letter Office at Shillong.
